The formation of DelageDelage was formed in 1905 by Louis Delage an inspired French business man and car enthusiast, Delage initially specialised in small cars and racing cars. During WW1 Delage was required to switch almost entirely to production of munitions in support of France's war effort although a few vehicles were still produced for Frances armed forces. Delage post WW1After WW1 Delage switched to luxury car production but returned to racing cars in 1927 and had considerable success in France and England until 1939 and the outbreak of WW2. After ww2 and the end of German occupation Delage was never able to recover it's former status or sales, car production finally ended in 1953 having only produced two or three cars a month for almost a year. In 1954 Delage became part of Hotchkiss, a company Delage had worked with pre-occupation retro-fitting their Delage D8 120 car engines into Hotchkiss H39 tanks. |
