An ice cooled engineAs can be seen in this picture, to minimise frontal area and drag a radiator was dispensed with and twin tanks in-between the front and rear wheels were filled with ice to facilitate cooling, these needed to be refilled after each run. The front cowling was closely moulded around the W12 Napier Lion engine and the drivers cockpit and main body of the car was placed directly behind the engine. A new Land Speed Record
On the 11th of March 1929 Henry Segrave set a new flying mile land speed record of 231.45 mph, two days later Lee Bible drove 81 litre 1500 bhp White Triplex in an attempt to regain the record for the US but unfortunately lost control and was killed. |
